Hello Three Broomsticks Crew! Love the new cast of hosts and returning favorites. This comment is for Irvin. You said that Luna and Harry would have been a good couple because Luna comforted Harry after Sirius died. I agree, but I am concerned that their relationship would not have lasted, as their initial common values will just lead to rehashing of trauma.
Going into a Cormoran Strike crossover for a minute, I think what makes Sarah Shadlock and Matthew Cunliffe a good couple is that Sarah comforted Matt after the “death” of his relationship with Robin after her rape.
Bad timing and cause aside, I think that Matt and Robin’s relationship should have never done a Fawkes and rekindled. It would have saved everyone A LOT of unneccessary heartache and Robin would have been free to pursue a healthy relationship. We would never have to read, “Robin thought, no, she knew that she loved Murphy” during the plot of Hallmarked Man.
I definitely agree that romances built on shared trauma probably aren’t the best long-term (ahem, George and Angelina). But I could see it going either way, just because both Harry and Luna (and Ginny for that matter) are people who don’t dwell on their trauma – they accept it and move on with life. In slightly different ways of course – Ginny much more brashly, Luna much more serenely – but I think it could really work for Harry either way. Just as long as they’re not always rehashing their trauma a la Cho.
lol I actually shipped Harry and Ginny way back in Chamber of Secrets. I remember being eight years old reading the book and just fantasizing about Harry realizing that he too had a crush on Ginny and them admitting it to each other at the Burrow. As a shy kid, I think I related to Ginny’s crush, and in my fantasy Ginny was basically just me with red hair 😆. I totally forgot about this ship until reading HBP when I read about Harry’s monster and was like “it’s finally happening…..!” 🤭 Also hot take, but I really liked Harry’s monster as a kid and I’m still fond of it even if others make fun. It totally makes sense to me as a way to represent the jealousy and possessiveness he feels when he realizes he can’t stand to see her with anyone else.
